The use of something toxic to combat specific biological species causing adverse effects on the human activities is quite unavoidable, but sooner or later problems caused to the environment and to not target organisms must be faced. In the case of the antifouling coatings, there is a cyclical development/production of new “products”, initially considered as the final solution of the problem, and then discovered responsible of new unpredicted adverse effects.
